RCP Mig-29 Wing Plate Comparison v3 vs v4

With every design modification, there are aerodynamic tradeoffs.  To better understand the effects of modifications of the v4 vs the v3, I like to compare the two designs.  Here is a picture comparing the wing plate of the v4 and v3.  I am still learning the software, so with time the pictures will improve.
The two wing plates are virtually identical in terms of shape.  The v4's trailing edge is not quite as tapered as the v3. The motor slot on the v4 is further forward which reduces the polar moment of inertia, this outweighs the increase in polar moment from the increase in overall length of the v4 vs the v3.
With such a minute change in the wing, it is fair to say the he increase in speed of the v4 over the v3 comes from the redesigned fuselage (reduced frontal area).
The next comparison will be the tail plates for which there is very obvious design change.  The v4 tail as the song says, "got back"

v4 is
red, v3 is black

  1. Wow, that is exciting to see the two compared like that, Stephan, it really demonstrates to me how much further forward the motor is on the V4 compared to the V3 and how they managed to sneak on that little bit of extra wing area with the V4, very hard to tell with the naked eye when I had my V3 and V4 sitting side by side. Can't wait to see more comparisons... :)

    Cheers,

    Scott
