New co-operative blog between Stephan Moran and I... :)

Hi everyone -

Stephan and I have decided that since we are both not spending much time on the RC Powers forum anymore that we would become partners in a North American Mig Consortium (NAMC) blog.  Below is our awesome patch that Stephan designed and will be on every plane I build from now on, Mig or not... :)

This is kind of a fun, informal partnership we have struck up over the last few months where we have discussed our park jet builds in detail, shared ideas for build techniques, modifications, etc.  Stephan and I both have very similar flying styles and I think are in constant pursuit of the perfect park jet (we both love the RC Powers Mig29, hence why it became a Mig Consortium initially).

Stephan and I are both retired Air Force officers from our respective countries, Stephan from the USAF and I from the RCAF, so we do throw a lot of acronyms around at times, without them we would probably run out of things to say pretty quickly... ;).  As you follow our blog, you will see a lot of M3e3 which as I have explained in other posts stands for Moran Modified Mig (M3) and e3 from my nickname e3Scott as I spent the last four years of my Air Force career as a Mission Crew Commander on the E-3 Sentry AWACS at Tinker AFB on exchange with the USAF.

This blog won't just be about Migs as we occasionally build other planes for a change of pace, but many of the ideas that spill over to other planes will have their origin in ideas we have shared, built, flown and tested on our Mig 29 park jets.  The Mig29 V3M3e3 started it all and is the best park jet I have ever flown and since then, we have just continued to learn from each other and push the limits in pursuit of the perfect park jet... :)

Stephan and I have a lot of common ideas, but approach them from different perspectives and I think that will keep things fresh and informative.  Stephan being a surgeon is far more scientific and analytic than I and has done considerable study on the science of aerodynamics since we started working together.  I being retired and a former air controller and operator am more a "seat of the pants" kind of person who has lots of time on his hands to fly and just figure out what feels right and what doesn't.

We do share very strict values of honesty, integrity and ethics and if we come up with something that doesn't work, we will admit it and try to make it better or just toss it out as a bad idea in the first place.  We are both very diligent in our testing and flying and only after repeated flights in as many different variable environments will we make a judgement on a plane and it's characteristics whether it be a stock build or something we have modified.

We are not coming up with these ideas for modification because we feel the planes are terrible, but rather to fine tune them to our style of flying.  One or both of us will always build a new plane stock the first time in order to fully evaluate it's characteristics before we do any playing around with it.  Sometimes it may not even be to correct something, but just rather something we want to test and evaluate.

We both just recently came back full time to this great hobby and both love the challenge and satisfaction that comes with scratch building our own foamie park jets.  With this blog we hope to create a place where folks might also comment and participate in what we are doing and learning without the sometimes restrictive environment of larger forums and websites.

Our blog name/URL will change in the near future as we figure out something cool, but for now, look for posts from both Stephan and I and we hope that you will find it fun and helpful... :)

Cheers,

Scott and Stephan
